Al Di Meola - Electric Rendezvous [1982/FLAC]

Electric Rendezvous is an album by jazz guitarist Al Di Meola that was released in 1982. It includes flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía who recorded Friday Night in San Francisco with Di Meola.

Al di Meola's fifth of seven fusion albums as a leader for Columbia is a typically fiery effort, with di Meola joined by keyboardist Jan Hammer, electric bassist Anthony Jackson, drummer Steve Gadd, percussionist Mingo Lewis, and guest spots for flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía ("Passion, Grace & Fire") and keyboardist Philippe Saisse. This lesser-known effort is easily recommended to fans of rock-ish jazz guitar.

Steps discography (1980-1982) [FLAC]

Steps Ahead is an American jazz fusion group.

The group arose out of spontaneous sessions at Seventh Avenue South, a jazz club in New York City owned by saxophonist Michael Brecker and trumpeter brother Randy Brecker. The first three albums were released under the name Steps, later changed to Steps Ahead, on Nippon Columbia in Japan, starting with the debut live album Smokin' in the Pit (1980), followed by Step By Step (1981) and Paradox (1982).

Steve Gadd Band - At Blue Note Tokyo [2021/FLAC]

It should come as no surprise that the Steve Gadd Band’s latest album is tasteful and deeply grooving, as that’s been the 75-year-old drummer’s M.O. since the 1970s. Recorded one evening in December 2019 during a four night booking at the Blue Note Tokyo, it follows on from the previous year’s Steve Gadd Band studio release which won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

The major difference this time is the presence of guitarist David Spinozza deputising for Michael Landau who was unable to make the tour. An old friend and colleague of Gadd, ‘Spin’ fits in perfectly and brings another dimension to the band. And what a band this is – there’s bassist Jimmy Johnson and trumpeter Walt Fowler who both played with Gadd in James Taylor’s band, and keyboard player Kevin Hays.
