Billy Cobham– The Atlantic Years 1973-1978 [8 CD, 2015] (FLAC + 320)

At the dawn of the 1970s, Billy Cobham built his legend with his bandleader debut, Spectrum . Raw, daring and overflowing with adrenalin, the album topped the Billboard Jazz charts. Having played for Miles Davis, Horace Silver and Mose Allison, Billy Cobham had joined the legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1971, before signing to Atlantic as a solo artist in 1973. Worshipped today as a titan of drumming, Billy Cobham's career is now in its fifth decade.

HR-Bigband (featuring Billy Cobham) - Meeting of the Spirits (A Celebration of the Mahavishnu Orchestra) [2006/FLAC]

Meeting of The Spirits / Celebrating The Music Of The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Bring together the mighty Hessische Rundfunk Big Band, the legendary drummer, Billy Cobham, the outstanding compositions of John McLaughlin and the consummate arranging skills of Colin Towns and you have an infallible recipe for success. For John McLaughlin, this project was, in his own words, a dream come true.

Mahavishnu Orchestra discography

Mahavishnu Orchestra were a jazz fusion band formed in New York City in 1971, led by English guitarist John McLaughlin. The group underwent several line-up changes throughout its history across two stints from 1971 to 1976 and 1984 to 1987. With its first line-up consisting of musicians Billy Cobham, Jan Hammer, Jerry Goodman and Rick Laird, the band received its initial acclaims for its complex, intense music consisting of a blend of Indian classical music, jazz and psychedelic rock, and their dynamic live performances between 1971 and 1973.
