Count Basie - America's #1 Band! The Columbia Years (4 CD, 2003/FLAC)

Count Basie's Columbia years have long been debated, subject to apocryphal written data and legend because of the willy-nilly nature of his tenure with the label and its subsidiaries. Producer Orrin Keepnews has thus assembled America's #1 Band: The Columbia Years, a compilation of Basie's Columbia years that not only makes sense historically; it is a treasure trove for listening. Aesthetics played a grand part in the decision-making process here, as did sound reproduction and discographical accuracy.

Count Basie – The Big Band Leader (10 CD, 2000/FLAC)

Count Basie was a bandleader and pianist who was at the forefront of American big band music in the mid-twentieth century.

This compilation  represent the Basie band's golden era from 1939 through 1950

Count Basie - The Chronological Classics [1936-1954] (15 CD/FLAC)

Count Basie (born August 21, 1904, Red Bank, New Jersey, U.S.—died April 26, 1984, Hollywood, Florida), American jazz musician noted for his spare, economical piano style and for his leadership of influential and widely heralded big bands.

Count Basie - The Complete Roulette Live Recordings of Count Basie and His Orchestra (1958-1962) [8 CD, 1991/FLAC]

Count Basie is one jazz musician who was amply recorded throughout his career and has been the subject of numerous domestic and foreign reissue lines; yet, Mosaic has managed to release Count Basie material in a valuable fashion. This eight-disc set contains Basie recordings for the Roulette label from 1959 to 1962, the first of a two-part series covering his full Roulette output. These are live recordings; the studio sessions are coming on their own set. There are plenty of blues, relaxed swingers, and superb vocals. There is nothing revolutionary about this music, but its consistency and celebratory fiber remain impressive through every disc. While eight discs is a lot of time for one band, no matter how great (and they do frequently repeat some songs), the set provides a chance to replicate the experience of life on the road for a touring band.

Count Basie & Lester Young - Classic 1936-1947 Studio Sessions [6 CD, 2016]

When Count Basie first recorded in Chicago in 1936, nothing like them had been heard before. It was the sound that launched the swing era, and, through Basie’s star saxophonist Lester Young, later inspired modernism. This excellent 8 CD collection takes us from the Basie Band’s springy first recordings through to Young mixing it with the modernists. In between a well-chosen blend of the rare and well-known captures Basie in his prime, Young going solo at his languorous peak and a new generation on the make.
